12th October 2017 - FLIP Faculty Special One Day Programme Day 1 (am) - Communicating when things get tricky Day 1 (pm) - What do you bring to the party?

This two day event combines four fascinating half day courses, both aimed at developing your skills and ability to support your clients.
Day 1 - Morning Course: Communicating with others when things get tricky
This half day course provides a discussion/workshop on the danger family professionals face of falling into the “One stop shop” trap and feeling they need to provide services and skill sets to clients they simply don’t have.
This discussion also helps delegates identify where to source and develop relationships with a variety of appropriate professionals in their area to further assist them in their daily practice.
Day 1 - Afternoon Course: What do you bring to the party?
This half day workshop is aimed at family lawyers and mediators of all ages and stages who would like to look afresh at the way they work. It will look at the skills that we need to turn us from good, competent lawyers and mediators into ones who have the chance to flourish, keep their clients happy and communicate with their peers in constructive ways. It will look at ways to acquire those skills.
It all starts with us. We cannot change others except by changing ourselves.

Who is this training relevant for / Who should attend?

The programme of courses is suitable for all Family Law professionals.

Key learning objectives

Key learning points

Day 1 - The morning course aims to increase awareness of:
How to identify local professions and practitioners who can perform certain tasks for your clients more efficiently and less expensively
How to build specific contracting relationships with these 3rd party professionals such that you, as solicitor retain ultimate control of each matter they assist you with.
How to refer clients to these professionals in such a way that they are happy with how their matter is being handled, and are therefore more likely to pay their bill to you in full rather than complain about certain aspects of it.
How working in this way ultimately increases a solicitor’s billed hours whilst also reducing the level of stress and hassle dealt with for difficult clients.
Day 1 - The afternoon course will focus on:
learn reflective exercises to improve the way you practice
Review communication skills and deeper listening
Develop an understanding of other resources for helping you to become better at what you do.

By the end of the courses you will be able to...

Day 1 - Morning:
This workshop will assist solicitors to better understand how working together with 3rd party professionals will actually decrease client costs, decrease the amount of hassle they get from certain clients, increase the level of client satisfaction and increase the number of fully paid invoices to enhance their bottom line.
Day 1 - Afternoon:
Be able to use a simple daily reflective exercise to improve the way you practice
Understand the importance of silence in communication
Be aware of other (non law) resources for helping you to become better at what you do.
