FLiP FACULTY APPROVED FAMILY LAW SUPERVISOR - KIM MARSHALL
I am a Family Law Solicitor with over 20 years’ experience, having worked in a variety of firms, from high street to large London practices. I understand, at first hand, the particular challenges and demands of working in family law.
I know how much I would have benefitted from supervision as a young family lawyer and recognise it would have reduced the stress I experienced around my work and made me a much more effective practitioner. This was a great motivator for me to train as a supervisor.
I have a longstanding interest in psychology and psychotherapy and have qualifications in psychodynamic and person-centred psychotherapy. This very much informs my practice as a family lawyer supervisor.
I am a great believer in the power being listened to with full attention: it is an unexpectedly effective, yet rare experience. Family lawyers in particular are used to focusing on the problems of others and typically don’t set aside time to reflect on or talk about what is happening for them.
As a supervisor, I will offer you a confidential, non-judgmental space to reflect on your day-to-day work and experiences. I will aim to give you support and encouragement and an opportunity to learn more about yourself so that you can do your job effectively and with enthusiasm. You will have time to think through and explore options and perhaps look at situations from a new perspective. Sometimes, just allowing yourself to vent or offload can be cathartic and energising. Supervision is tailored to what you might need at any particular time in your working life and I hope it will become an integral part of your practice.
