THE IMPORTANCE OF STORY
Course Summary
This one day course is aimed at helping family lawyers appreciate the importance of the stories our clients tell us. Though we may think we have heard them all before in fact each story we hear is unique and will contain valuable insights into the person sitting in front of us. Our assumptions and prejudices will be challenged and as a result we will be better lawyers for our clients. The course will be highly interactive involving storytelling, input and small group discussions.
Speakers - Gillian Bishop and Chris Mills
Gillian has been a solicitor for nearly 35 years and a specialist family lawyer for the last 22 years. During that time she has developed passion for learning more about the context of the work she does. For many years she chaired the Skills and Support committee of Resolution with the aim of promoting essential skills training and pushing the boundaries of the average family lawyer’s knowledge.
Chris is a psychotherapist, family consultant and supervisor. He believes that knowledge of what contributes to healthy and conscious relating provides the bedrock for excellence and success in the work of family law.
